If your toilet has become clogged, then you have a big problem. You only hope that water does not rush out of the toilet tank and create an even bigger mess. Going to the neighbors or the nearest convenience store to use the bathroom can be unpleasant, assuming you can get there in time. Instead, try these ideas to unclog your toilet.
Hot Water
Pouring hot water into the toilet may break up the clog and allow the toilet to drain. Fill a pan with water and put it on the stove. Let it heat until tiny bubbles form on the water’s surface. Then, carefully pour the water into the commode. Wait a few minutes and see if the water level starts to go down. If it does, then flush the toilet.
Dish Soap
You can sometimes break up a clog with dish soap. Start by pouring about 1/4 cup in the commode and wait five minutes. Then, pour some simmering hot water into the toilet bowl. The combination of the two may break up the clog.
Wire Coat Hanger
A wire coat hanger may be your tool of choice if you lock the keys in the car, but it can also be helpful when unstopping the toilet. Start by unbending the coat hanger until it is straight. Then, duct tape an old rag to one end so that the wire does not scratch the commode. Forcefully push the hanger down the water exit hole until it reaches the clog. Once it does, move the wire back and forth to push the clog out of the way.
The best solution is to call a plumber. They have special tools that will easily take care of the clog without making a mess. At Dan’s Drains and Digs, we serve residents in the Colorado Springs area, so give us a call.
